HISTORY OF NYALI SDA CHURCH

The proposal to establish Nyali Church was strongly mooted during the Jesus is the Answer Gospel Campaign at Tononoka Grounds which ran from 17th to 31st October 2009 conducted by Evangelist Dr Emmanuel Osei from England. At the end of this Campaign, there was a strong feeling by the Kizingo District leadership and church members then led by Pr Japheth Machuko to open a new Church at Nyali, an affluent and largely un-entered suburb. After a series of consultations, this grand idea was put on hold and a proposal arrived at to open this new church in the year of our Lord 2010. By God's will, we had another great gospel Campaign at the same grounds in 2010 from 9th to 31st October whose theme was Living with Hope led by the Servant of the Lord Evangelist, Pr Randy Skeet from the USA. From the onset of this major campaign, the proposal of starting Nyali Church was revived again but now with more vigour and determination. It was indeed an idea whose time had come. The Kizingo District leadership led by Pr Daniel Yeri was obviously inspired and enthusiastic about this grand idea. A series of consultations were held and a search started to identify a place, a temporary home from where the infant church could start. Many options were explored including open plots, schools, residential facilities, while at the same time seeking for God’s guidance in identifying this landmark/historical temporary home for the Church. A proposal about identifying a structure within the Mombasa Showground came up, immediate follow-up done which culminated in the finding of a temporary place for the Church at the current rented premises at the Mombasa Showground. The Sabbath School was inaugurated on the 12th of Feb 2011 under the leadership of Pr Daniel Yeri assisted by Associate Pr Ibraim Omondi. Working together with the pioneer Head Elder, Elder Jared Bosire, Pr Daniel Yeri started the initial idea of acquiring our own plot and with this the first fundraising was initiated. The subsequent Nyali SDA Church leadership led initially by Pr Reuben Charo mobilized members in a series of subsequent fundraisings to purchase a ½ Acre plot in a prime location in Nyali. This later culminated in breaking the camp in 2017 and boldly moving by faith to the plot in the year 2017. The final push to fully own the plot came strongly when we were already in occupation under the leadership of Pr Maxwel Mwashghadi when the Church proudly acquired the full ownership tittle of the plot in 2021 thanks to the sacrifice and dedication by members, Church Development Committee and its leadership. The SDA Church Worldwide is a movement and we sincerely and humbly pray that this nascent Church can grow to be a great centre of evangelism, a beacon of light and hope in this community, a place where God is worshipped in spirit and truth. _____________________________________________________________________________
